Be Prepared for Any Venue
Japanese sports venues are clean, safe, and well-organized, but knowing what to bring can make your experience much more comfortable. Here's a venue-specific packing guide.
Universal Essentials
- Smartphone: For digital tickets, translations, and photos
- Portable charger: Essential for digital tickets and navigation
- Cash: Some food stalls are cash-only (though cashless is increasing)
- IC card: Suica or Pasmo for trains and some stadium purchases
Outdoor Stadiums
- Rain poncho: Umbrellas can block views. Ponchos are preferred
- Sunscreen and hat: Summer day games can be extremely hot
- Warm layers: Night games get cold, especially in spring and autumn
- Seat cushion: Long games on hard seats benefit from padding
Dome Stadiums
- Light jacket: Air conditioning can make domes surprisingly cold
- Binoculars: Large domes mean distant seats. Bring binoculars for detail
Indoor Arenas (Basketball/Volleyball)
- No flash photography: Especially strict at volleyball matches
- Pack light: Seat spacing in arenas is tight
Summary
A little preparation goes a long way. Pack according to the venue type and you'll have a comfortable, enjoyable experience at any Japanese sports event.
