Three baseball cultures
East Asia has three thriving professional baseball leagues, each with its own distinct flavor. If you're planning an Asia trip and love baseball, here's how they compare.
Cheering style
Japan (NPB): The most organized. Every batter has a unique song. Trumpet-led, precisely coordinated. It feels almost choreographed. Korea (KBO): The loudest and most party-like. Thundersticks, K-pop-influenced chants, and cheerleaders on stage. Pure energy. Taiwan (CPBL): A blend of both — organized chants with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Smaller crowds but incredibly passionate.
Stadium food
Japan wins this category decisively. Each NPB stadium serves regional specialties at restaurant quality. Korea has good options (fried chicken and beer is the classic combo). Taiwan has great night-market-style food outside stadiums but more limited inside.
Tickets and accessibility
All three leagues are affordable and accessible for tourists. Japan: ¥1,500-4,000. Korea: ₩8,000-20,000. Taiwan: NT$300-800. Japan has the widest variety of stadiums and the most consistent quality across venues.
