The real cost, not just the ticket

"NPB tickets start at ¥1,500" is true but misleading. You also eat, drink, travel, and maybe buy a souvenir. Here's what a full game day costs at three budget levels.

Budget level: ¥3,000-5,000 ($20-33)

Outfield unreserved seat: ¥1,000-2,500. Convenience store bento (brought in): ¥500. PET bottle drink (brought in): ¥150. Transport (round trip, central Tokyo): ¥500-1,000. One beer inside: ¥800. Total: about ¥3,000-5,000. This is a real, enjoyable game day. You eat, you drink one beer, you cheer. Belluna Dome (Lions) is the cheapest venue — outfield seats start at ¥1,000.

Standard level: ¥6,500-10,000 ($43-65)

Infield reserved seat: ¥3,500-5,000. Stadium food (main dish): ¥800-1,200. Two beers: ¥1,600-1,800. Transport: ¥500-1,500. Total: about ¥6,500-10,000. This is how most regular fans attend games. Comfortable seat, stadium food, a couple of beers.

Premium level: ¥13,000-25,000 ($85-165)

Premium/lounge seat: ¥8,000-15,000. Restaurant meal inside stadium: ¥2,000-5,000. Merchandise (team towel): ¥1,500-2,500. Transport: ¥500-1,500. Total: about ¥13,000-25,000. ES CON Field's Diamond Club or Tokyo Dome's Premium Lounge. Special occasion territory.

Comparison with MLB

An equivalent MLB experience (infield seat, two beers, stadium food) costs $80-150 at most parks. The NPB equivalent is $43-65. Japanese baseball is roughly half the price of American baseball for a comparable experience.

Money-saving tips

Bring food from a convenience store (most stadiums allow it). Buy outfield seats and bring binoculars. Go on weeknights (less crowded, sometimes cheaper). Join a fan club for ticket discounts (annual fee ¥3,000-5,000 pays for itself in 3 games).

How to buy tickets

Official team sites or English-language platforms with international card support.
