Japan's community-owned team
The Hiroshima Toyo Carp are unique in NPB โ they're the only team without a major corporate owner, instead being supported directly by the community. This creates an incredibly passionate fan base, including the famous "Carp Joshi" (Carp Girls) movement that brought women's baseball fandom into the mainstream.
MAZDA Zoom-Zoom Stadium
Opened in 2009, MAZDA Stadium is a 10-minute walk from JR Hiroshima Station. What makes it special is the incredible variety of seating options โ more creative than any other stadium in Japan.
Unique seating experiences
Sleeper seats (Nesoberiya): Lie down on cushioned wooden decks and watch the game โ like watching from a beach. Sand-level seats (Sunakaburi): Ground-level seats where you can hear the crack of the bat and the players' shouts. BBQ terrace: Grill meat while watching baseball. These special seats sell out fast โ book early.
Carp Joshi phenomenon
The Carp have one of the highest female fan ratios in NPB. The team's merchandise is fashionable and Instagram-worthy. The atmosphere is welcoming for women attending alone or in groups โ a refreshing contrast to some other sports environments.
Hiroshima food at the stadium
Grilled Hiroshima oysters, Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, and local craft beer are all available inside. The food quality is exceptional for a stadium.
Summary
MAZDA Stadium is the most creative ballpark in Japan. The seating variety, welcoming atmosphere, and incredible Hiroshima food make it a must-visit for any baseball fan.
