Before and after
Before 2024: Sanfrecce Hiroshima played at Big Arch, a track-and-field stadium 40 minutes by bus from the city center. Average attendance was modest. The front row was over 20 meters from the pitch. After 2024: EDION Peace Wing sits in central Hiroshima, 5 minutes by tram from the Atomic Bomb Dome. The front row is 7 meters from the pitch. Attendance has jumped. The atmosphere has transformed.
For football tourists
Peace Wing is now one of the easiest J-League stadiums to add to a Japan trip. If you're visiting Hiroshima for the Peace Memorial (and you should), a Sanfrecce match is a 10-minute walk from the museum. No special transport needed. No suburban detour. Football and history in the same afternoon.
The stadium
30,000 seats. Football-specific (no running track). 85% roof coverage. Modern concourse with Hiroshima food vendors (okonomiyaki, oysters, local beer). Steep, close stands that create genuine atmosphere even at moderate attendance.
Getting there
Hiroshima tram to Genbaku Dome-mae: 5-minute walk. JR Hiroshima Station: 15-minute walk. Both are easy enough that you don't need a taxi or bus.
Combine with
Peace Memorial Park and Museum (10-minute walk). Okonomimura β a building full of okonomiyaki stalls (15-minute walk). Miyajima Island (JR + ferry, 45 minutes). MAZDA Stadium for Carp baseball (10-minute walk from JR Hiroshima Station). You could watch both a Sanfrecce match and a Carp game in one Hiroshima trip.
