It's colder than the forecast says
Weather apps show the temperature for people walking around. Sitting still in a stadium for 3 hours is different. Wind chill, concrete seats, and no movement make it feel 5-10Β°C colder than the forecast. A 15Β°C (59Β°F) evening can feel like 8Β°C (46Β°F) in the stadium.
Coldest NPB stadiums
ZOZO Marine Stadium (ocean wind, no protection). Jingu Stadium (open design, wind corridor). Yokohama Stadium (coastal location). Koshien (sea breeze from Osaka Bay). Dome stadiums (Tokyo Dome, PayPay Dome, Vantelin Dome, Kyocera Dome) are climate-controlled at 22-25Β°C β no cold weather gear needed.
What to wear
Layering system
Base: thermal undershirt. Middle: fleece or sweater. Outer: windbreaker or down jacket. This system lets you adjust as the temperature drops after sunset.
What to bring
Blanket (for your lap and legs). Hand warmers (kairo β Β₯100 at any convenience store, stick-on type for your back and pockets). Seat cushion (cold plastic seats). Thermos with hot drink. Hat and gloves for March/April games.
When cold weather matters
Opening Day (late March) through Golden Week (early May): night games get cold. September pennant race through Climax Series (October): temperatures dropping again. Summer (June-August): heat is the problem, not cold.
The warm alternative
If cold weather concerns you, choose a dome stadium. Tokyo Dome, PayPay Dome, Vantelin Dome, and Kyocera Dome are comfortable in T-shirt and jeans year-round.
How to buy tickets
Available through official team sites and English-language platforms. Dress warm and you'll enjoy cold-weather baseball β the playoff atmosphere in October at an outdoor stadium is worth every shiver.
