A stadium with an amusement park
Rakuten Mobile Park Miyagi is the only NPB stadium with a full amusement park on its grounds. A Ferris wheel, carousel, batting cages, and playground are all accessible with just a game ticket. For families, it's the best baseball venue in Japan.
Smile Glico Park
The amusement area wraps around the stadium's exterior. Kids can ride attractions while parents watch the game from outfield viewing areas. Entry is included with your game ticket; individual rides cost a few hundred yen each. It solves the universal problem of children getting bored during baseball games.
Sendai's famous food
Sendai is the beef tongue (gyutan) capital of Japan. Inside the stadium, thick-cut grilled gyutan bento boxes are the must-eat item. Zunda shake (sweet edamame milkshake) and zunda mochi are unique Sendai desserts you won't find elsewhere.
Getting there
20-minute walk from JR Sendai Station, or subway to Miyaginohara Station (10 min walk). Sendai is 90 minutes from Tokyo by Hayabusa shinkansen — very doable as a day trip.
Day trip from Tokyo
8:00 AM: Shinkansen from Tokyo. 9:30 AM: Arrive Sendai, gyutan breakfast at the station. 10:30 AM: Visit Zuihoden mausoleum. 1:00 PM: Day game at Rakuten Park (kids play at Smile Glico Park between innings). 5:00 PM: Shopping at Sendai station. 6:00 PM: Shinkansen back to Tokyo.
For families
Nursing rooms and diaper-changing facilities throughout. Stroller parking at entrances. Kids under 4 enter free. Family seats have extra space so you don't disturb other fans. It's thoughtfully designed for parents.
