Sendai: Rakuten Eagles + Gyutan
Distance: 90 min by Hayabusa shinkansen. Watch the Rakuten Eagles at their amusement-park stadium, then feast on Sendai's famous beef tongue (gyutan). Morning shinkansen → gyutan lunch → afternoon game → evening return. Total budget: about ¥25,000-30,000 including train.
Nagoya: Chunichi Dragons + Nagoya Meshi
Distance: 100 min by Nozomi shinkansen. Catch a Dragons game at Vantelin Dome and meet Doala, NPB's most famous mascot. Combine with miso katsu, tebasaki chicken wings, and kishimen noodles. The dome is climate-controlled for any weather.
Hiroshima: Carp + Peace Memorial
Distance: 240 min by Nozomi shinkansen (or fly). Visit the Peace Memorial Park in the morning, then walk 10 minutes to MAZDA Stadium for an afternoon Carp game. The unique seating options (BBQ seats, sleeper seats) make this stadium special. A long day trip or overnight recommended.
Yokohama: BayStars + Chinatown
Distance: 25 min by JR from Tokyo Station. The easiest day trip. Morning at Cup Noodles Museum, lunch in Chinatown, afternoon/evening BayStars game, post-game walk along the Minato Mirai waterfront. Budget: ¥8,000-12,000.
Saitama: Basketball or Soccer
Distance: 30-40 min by train. Catch a B.League game at LaLa Arena or Saitama Super Arena, or a J-League match at Saitama Stadium (Urawa Reds — the most passionate soccer fans in Japan). Very easy half-day trips.
Using the JR Pass
If you have a Japan Rail Pass, shinkansen day trips become incredibly economical. The Tokyo-Sendai round trip alone is worth ¥22,000 — almost the cost of a 7-day pass.
